From the Desk of Doctor Paul ...'"Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'" Psalm 46:10
"This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says, 'In quietness, repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength...'" Isaiah 30:15
"Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weakling say, 'I am strong!'" Joel 3:10
Without a doubt, the majority of people, particularly in America, do not feel listened to or heard. Most of us have been transformed into human-doings, instead of human-beings. Fearful of rejection, abandonment, ridicule, confrontation and criticism, people neglect that still, small Voice on the inside, in favor of the external clamor of a demanding and narcissistic environment. Most have never heard of walking in the Spirit and the fulness of Covenant.
Such is the case when relating to the Lord. He has emphatically instructed the Bride to come boldly to the Throne Room, for the purpose of obtaining understanding and mercy in times of need. Beyond that, in the same process, there's a subsequent tasting and realization that the Lord is good. Our strength, according to the Word, can solely be acquired through quietness and confidence, by being still before Him, which involves listening and recognizing that He is God. That emphatically speaks to me! A knowing, or revelatory knowledge, will only come by way of stillness. Expectant listening is a part of that progression.
How often have you hung up on the Father? Some might be thinking, "Paul, what in the world are you talking about?" Exactly what I said! Imagine calling a loved one and holding a one-sided conversation. "Hello Dad, let me tell you what I need. Have a good day. Amen! Good-bye!"
That may put a smile on your face. It is kind of humorous. Yet, sadly, the very moment a Child of the Most High concludes a prayer with "Amen," without listening, that's precisely what he's doing...presenting a formulated recitation, or a list of requests and needs, then telling the Father to take a hike.
"Amen...!" I'm fairly positive that we're not attempting to be purposely rude with this posture, because many in the Family simply don't know any better. We've never been taught that Heaven has a discernible Voice. Neither do most Christians realize that God desires nothing more than to fellowship the Kids.
Who has taught us to listen? How many churches today, although some do practice His Presence, say, "Prayer is a dialogue, a reasonable conversation between man and God, which involves listening in anticipation of hearing? So, let's talk to Him in our own respective fashions, the way we'd communicate with a friend, after which there'll be a season of listening. When He's spoken, journal what's been said in that Secret Place. Then compare notes." Oh, how edifying and instructional that will be! Evangelical direction would consequently become abundantly clear, while taking on a new meaning. Always remember, communication is to relationships what blood is to the body!
True listening rarely occurs. We aren't challenged to do that, since again, people are fearful of the noise of silence, what might be derived from an open exchange with the Author of Life and Truth. Regardless, that's so needed in this hour and day.
By ages two or three, those so called "terrible" years from a parent's vantage point, youngsters are testing their boundaries and environments, in an effort to determine whether they are safe or not. If shut down by an inattentive or unavailable mother and/or father, that little one learns to suppress and repress, as a defensive means of surviving childhood. Such then becomes the case as years pass. No one listens. So why should an effort be made to hear others, including self? That little person on the inside, screaming for an audience, is ignored. A shifting of attention and priorities takes place, where the wounded one embraces an external orientation, controlled by the senses, rather than led by means of those inner dreams, visions, desires, nudgings and promptings. Pain builds. A medication becomes necessary. For some, it's compulsive, then addictive behaviors...sex, pornography, drug abuse, unhealthy relationships, workaholism, perfectionism and food, to name a few. We head in a direction of a quick fix, an adrenaline rush or dopamine infusion, not to mention the psychopathology that usually follows. In this dissociative mode, a desensitization takes place, an experiential loss of the soul, in an effort to please others and merely make it from day to day. Relief is sought, via codependent exchanges and interactions, negative transference and transposing, giving others what we personally desire, being let down by an absence of reciprocity.
Here's a rule of thumb I use in treating patients at the Clinic. "One seeks in relationships what wasn't provided in childhood." The agony of not being heard is astounding!
Contemplate your day. Are you unheard and uncomfortable around quietness? When taking a walk or jog, are blaring earphones usually a part of your routine? Is the television or radio regularly engaged within the house or automobile, to block all silence, God's soft Voice, those internal thoughts and memories? Most of us can answer in the affirmative to those questions.
Have you ever witnessed a deaf person receiving wholeness? It's a moving moment. I've frequently gently inserted my fingers into the ears of the deaf, while using the Name of Jesus in a prayer of faith. The very second hearing is restored, invariably they'll be a look of shock on the recipient's face, a covering of ears, as the very sound of rushing air, which many people take for granted and rarely discern, is too much for the newly restored internal components of the auditory system. Tears flow. After a few moments, the recipient of Heaven's blessing is able to remove both hands and repeat almost indiscernible whispers. For that individual, sound is a blessing.
God yearns for dialogue, more than you know. We were created in His likeness and image for just that. As the Christian listens, they'll be an exchange of thoughts, ideas, feelings, emotions and plans.
The Lover of Souls is the Believer's Role Model. He doesn't just use ears in conversation, but hears with His whole being, heart included. So should we. The words people speak touch the Father's heart and move Glory's hand. Should the Body of Christ learn from that encounter with Dad? Yes! What is experienced can be shared.
This planet is hungry for compassionate ears. People will line up at doors for service and attention, both of which are certainly deserved. You and I have been placed here for that purpose. So, let's remove all obstacles preventing us from hearing. In so doing, the sound of silence will no longer be oppressive, but invigorating, revelational and rewarding!
The Holy Spirit is whispering to hearts right now. Remove those earplugs, and hear what He's saying to the Church!
"Listen, Precious Child! Discern that stirring within. The vision's appointed
time is just around the corner. Birthing remains nigh. I've been with you
during those occasions of question and doubt, when no one else would listen or
understand. Know this! Very few comprehend through the Father's ears, since many
are fearful of the very truth that will set them free. For within that
freedom lies deliverance for multitudes. The enemy knows this and would do all in
his lying nature to convince Christians of a spiritual impotency. When did the
Sent One appear weakest? When He was on the cross and in that tomb.
Nevertheless, even the rocks had to move aside when He arose and exited death's door. In
your weakness is His strength made perfect, even to the point of
materialization. Come boldly to the Throne, where Goodness and Mercy, Heaven's Twins, await
your arrival. Never will there be condemnation when We get together. Instead,
the Creator of all that is will build up His Kids, via revelation knowledge,
quickened, made-alive words, promises of Covenant, empowerment to fulfill the
Great Commission. Let Me make this point abundantly clear, since
miscomprehension will further keep you from destiny and being transformed into a Living
Epistle, known and read of all men. What are people to discern in observing your
walk? The answer is swift and clear...yoke destroying, burden removing Power
and Dominion, full sufficiency in everything pertaining to life and godliness.
Let's return to the process. As fellowship is ongoing, there'll be a hearing
of Heaven's Voice. Inherent in this revelatory progression resides a mandate or
promise. Remember, no word from your God is void of an ability to bring
itself to pass. So, We'll talk; you'll hear and obey, after which there'll be a
manifestation. Compassion's momentum will exponentially gain such intensity that
the very dead will not be able to resist the Resurrected Christ. Before His
return for the Bride, the Savior must be revealed, once more, as the Word made
flesh, before many and new generations of hungering and thirsting men, women
and children. The most potent darkness and impossible situations will bend their
knees to the King of Kings! Bowels of compassion can always be trusted, as I
Am reestablishing a new way of listening, one that moves the hearer's heart to
perform those greater works. Just as all of this world's libraries couldn't
contain the plentiful works of the Master, neither will pen and paper be able
to keep up with the victories and miraculous in your walk. Rejoice! You're
contagious with the Glory!"
