From the Desk of Doctor Paul ..."The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 5:20-21
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Matthew 5:6
'"Come now, let us reason together,' says the Lord..." Isaiah 1:18
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:1-2
Have you noticed the general unhappiness in today's world? Without question, mood and other related disorders are on the rise. In fact, for the first time in my life, pharmaceutical companies are prolifically advertising prescription drugs, glorified with little cartoon characters, depicting the potential effectiveness of their medications to eradicate symptoms, from depression to anxiety. In essence, some of the media spots are making a promise, "Take one of these, and you'll be a new person! All will be well by using our product." Toward the commercial's end, partying people, with smiles on their faces, interact with each other, seemingly free of worries and cares. The viewer is understandably attracted to the portrayed environment of happiness, joy and fruitful interaction.
At our Clinic in Maine, I never hesitate to suggest medication, when required, as part of one's treatment plan, deeming some drugs as "water wings," to be used temporarily, or for a season, while the patient learns to connect with self, process emotions and make necessary adjustments. Without dealing with core issues, particularly when addressing psychopathology and its etiology, the patient is indeed being shortchanged, not unlike visiting your dentist with a toothache and being given a numbing agent, instead of going to the very root of the problem, replacing the bad with good.
Food, sex, drugs, unhealthy relationships, workaholism, perfectionism, displaced anger, spending, gambling, and more, are being used to ameliorate pain in this day and age. Hurting people aren't talking to each other, and are fearful of their environments, how others might react to much needed transparency. Surrounded by walls that keep people out and make prisoners of those on both sides, we are hiding behind masks and other facades. Isolation and insulation further promote a sense of complacency and hopelessness.
Contemplate those media ads that seemingly sell hope, promising external change in self and surroundings, increased acceptance, wealth, health and contentment. Magazine covers adorn beautiful faces that have been computer enhanced. For the most part, reality isn't always depicted in these presentations, since there wouldn't be a whole lot of attractiveness if agencies were to unveil what's really going on within the heart and soul of man. All of this generally focuses on the external for answers, solutions and remedies.
As a specialist in Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum Disorders, I frequently deal with self-mutilation. Basically, with this malady we are confronted with neuropathway (wiring) and chemistry issues. However, those seeking treatment, more often than not, seek empowerment, have been victimized in one way or another, using this form of negative pattern interrupt to rechannel emotional trauma. In my professional opinion, the self-mutilator has experienced considerable inner, personal shredding. The associated behavior, which stimulates a release of natural painkillers, as well as a redirecting of thoughts and inner-anger, is actually an externalization of heart (internal) wounds...words and actions that have caused unspeakable agony within the soul. Additionally, there may well be a hope that "someone just might see my pain through these scars and wounds, and come to the rescue."
I thrill in telling these precious people that they have a right and responsibility to feel in order to heal. Expression remains mandatory. The patient is given permission to process and enjoy unconditional love and respect. Assertiveness replaces their previously unhealthy, indirect way of communicating and handling of inner fear and rage. Consequently, the patient gains identity, enjoys heightened self-worth, while establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries.
In deeming this a marvelous treatment plan for those oppressed with the disorder, we must admit that its components also meticulously line up with the Word and Heaven's mindset for the Children. God has clearly related, via Covenant, who we are in Christ, that the Believer is invited to boldly approach the Throne, where he can reason with, and obtain mercy from, the Author and Finisher of faith. The Father, knowing exactly what we're going through, is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He is an ever present help in times of need.
Live long enough, and you'll discover that there's a "spiritual itch" on the inside, that cannot be scratched by anyone or anything, but the hand of God. People will invariably let us down. That includes best friends, spouses, pastors, evangelists, prophets, apostles, teachers and other Christians. Happiness is fleeting, while joy and peace don't have to be. When a quality decision is made to take up residency in Glory's Secret Place, the "itch" vanishes, as satiation and fulfillment become the norm.
The Holy Spirit has offered several revelations, of late. "The Passion of the Christ" was again brought to my attention. Seemingly, in the movie, for two hours Jesus was tortured and tormented by Satan's pawns. But, as realistic as the movie appeared, it's portrayal was merely a fraction of what the Savior actually suffered back then.
No one could take His life. That fact has been made very clear by the Word. The Master walked through crowds of people who desired to perform all manner of evil against Him, including, but not limited to, throwing the Man off a mountain. Their plan of destruction wouldn't work.
What protected Jesus back then? His obedience and the Glory comprise that answer. Was He really in full control? Absolutely! On a whim, the Lamb could have called down a myriad of angels to deal with the situation. So, every time that whip struck the Redeemer's flesh, permission had to be granted, along with an exclamation of..."More! Keep going. More pain is required. Redemption requires that!" The process continued right up to Calvary's cross, where the Son finally declared..."It is finished!"
You see, the price had to be fully paid. There wasn't a molecule or cell in Christ's body, which was not impacted and injured by Calvary's encounter. Redemption involved yieldedness and the affecting of every atom, as it does ours. Crucifixion was a small part of the progression, since many met that fate. Christ's greatest torment was the assimilation of all sin, sickness, symptoms, circumstances, poverty and death...past, present and future, the full spectrum of pain and suffering, endured within a short span of time.
How can we question Heaven's will in matters pertaining to wellness, power and commission? What the scalpel or clinician can't reach, His arm, which isn't shortened or limited, can. Flesh and blood will always fail us, but "Prosperity" is written on His hand and ours! Thus, an unscratchable itch can only be satisfied by the One Whose wrists were affixed to the tree, two-thousand years ago. Covenant secures that. Let's permit Him to reach deeply into those dark areas and dispel trespassers of every nature. He's poised to do just that!
"Redeemed Child, never for a moment was I out of control. During those
occasions when your Savior appeared weakest, He was fully enjoying the strength of
Glory. There was a specific path to follow, one leading to resurrection and
completion. Has it not been written that the weak are to proclaim strength? In
your weakness is My might made perfect. Those beatings, scars, yes, even the
Savior's broken, pierced heart, were permitted to fulfill the law and settle the
sin issue, once and for all. With every shredding of the Savior's flesh,
permission was granted, since Satan had nothing in Me, from the cross of obedience,
including ministry, to the throne. Such is the case with you. More! More!
More! Those were the words the adversary heard, until the full penalty was
realized. The finished work of Christ is yours. I Am surely acquainted with those
hidden and obvious regions of attack, symptoms and weaknesses. The Holy Spirit,
residing on the inside, is dedicated beyond human comprehension, to full
deliverance, a perfection of everything pertaining to life and godliness. Picture
each cell, the molecules and atoms within that body. They are alive with My
Glory, since I uphold all things by the word of My Power. Yieldedness and
obedience will intensify that fact and manifest the tangible. You have been called
to surrender for promotion and glorification. Know this! What you've been
attempting to rectify, via the beggarly elements of this world, your Father's hand
is poised to resolve through the Covenant. I have raised the Throne Room's
hand to reach into realms of impossibility and hopelessness. You are not in this
walk and warfare alone, brave Soldier. Your Savior's prayer is in the process
of being answered, as My will is done on earth, even as it is in Heaven. This
is voting time for the Body. Halt not between two opinions. Double-mindedness
has no place in the Kingdom. History would have been forever changed in
Gethsemane's Garden, if Jesus had not deferred to the plan and will of His Father,
when praying, 'If possible, let this cup pass from Me. Nevertheless, not My
will, but Yours be done.' His words facilitated furtherance of redemption's
plan. The time has arrived for the hand of the Lord to vitally move with, and
within, the Family, confirming the Word with signs following. Experiences demand
attention. Everyone desires knowledge of outcome. Tests do produce testimonies.
The enemy is ongoingly overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and word of your
testimony. It will be, even as I've promised. The womb of man's spirit hungers
for the Word. Feeding upon Heaven's intent must translate into strength, victory
and the miraculous. A Cloud lies before the Church. Forward movement is Dad's
command. Glory to Glory remains your call. Prepare for Me to lighten that
load, as a Resurrected Christ is presented to a hungering world!"
